Failed Recognition Privacy Policy

This policy describes the prototype and the planned optional signup. The signup on this website is disabled and does not collect email addresses.

Effective date: November 6, 2026
Operator: Energetic Endeavors LLC, United States

Energetic Endeavors LLC (we or us) operates the Failed Recognition prototype. We use optional gameplay analytics and feedback primarily to improve the final game’s overall experience and assess its commercial viability. You can play without allowing analytics or submitting feedback. No player account is required.

We do not sell player data.

Who this prototype is for

Our intended audience is in the United States and Canada, but we do not block players in other countries. Children are not our intended audience. The current prototype does not verify age or impose an 18-and-over restriction. A parent or guardian with a privacy concern can use our privacy contact form (opens in a new tab).

Information stored in your browser

The game uses localStorage in your browser to remember progress, remaining stabilizers, piano range, sound preferences and whether you have seen the puzzle instructions. Saves stay in that browser; they are not uploaded as a cloud save. Optional analytics separately sends the summaries below.

Browser saves have no automatic expiry. Clearing this site’s data in browser settings removes saved progress and preferences. Browser settings or private browsing may prevent saves or remove them sooner.

Optional gameplay analytics

If you select Allow analytics, we collect summaries to understand puzzle difficulty and where players get stuck:

• Active puzzle time, completed attempts and wrong-note counts.

• Ordinary stabilizer and superstabilizer use.

• The last chapter, panel or puzzle phrase reached, and a confirmed early-quit action.

Records also contain random session and submission IDs, version information, snapshot numbers and receipt times. The browser keeps the session ID only in page memory. Reloading starts a new consent choice and ID if allowed. This version has no persistent analytics ID for returning browsers.

We do not ask for names or emails in gameplay analytics, or send individual note sequences or keystroke logs. These are session-level records, not a guarantee of anonymity. Hosting and collection providers process technical information as described below.

Your analytics choice

Select Play without analytics or withdraw permission in Analytics settings. Withdrawal stops future analytics and clears unsent in-memory analytics. It does not retract submissions already in transit or delete records already received by the server. You can use the contact form to ask about deletion.

Active puzzle time excludes hidden, unfocused or paused play and feedback. Summaries are sent during active puzzles and gameplay transitions. A last checkpoint does not establish a quit; closing a tab is not recorded as an explicit quit.

Optional feedback

Only Submit feedback sends your answers and comments, chapter, completion or early-exit status, game and survey versions, random submission ID and receipt time. Feedback is separate from analytics and contains no analytics session ID.

Please leave names, contact details and other personal information out of written answers. Unsubmitted answers are discarded when you close the form. Closing it after submitting cannot undo a submission already received.

Access and use of feedback findings

The owner currently handles playtest records for Energetic Endeavors LLC. ChatGPT is an authorized connected assistant and may analyze records through OpenAI. Cloudflare, Supabase and other service providers described here process information to provide their services; authorized provider personnel and systems may have access.

We may share aggregate feedback findings with third parties for business purposes, including funding development and recruiting talent. Reports are intended to present combined results without identifying individual browser sessions. Small groups or distinctive comments can still identify someone, so removing a session ID alone is not enough to make a report anonymous.

Hosting and service providers

Cloudflare hosts the game. Supabase receives and stores analytics and feedback in a database in AWS US East Ohio, United States. Provider operations and support may process information in other countries.

Cloudflare processes technical requests when it delivers the game. Supabase also processes requests when you send analytics or feedback. Its request logs include IP-address fields, browser and device information from user-agent headers, request URLs and times, and location fields derived from network information. These operational records support delivery, security and troubleshooting.

Playing without analytics stops optional gameplay summaries, but not requests needed to load the site or send voluntary feedback. Gameplay and feedback tables do not intentionally include IP addresses or browser fingerprints; this does not mean the service collects no IP, device or location information.

Provider information: Cloudflare; Supabase privacy notice and data processing terms; Google; OpenAI. These explain provider practices and supplement this policy; they do not replace our responsibilities.

Information may be processed in the United States and in other countries where our providers operate. Privacy laws and government-access rules may differ from those where you live.

How we protect the data

Browser submissions use HTTPS to encrypt information in transit to the collector. The database has row-level access controls, and public-facing database roles cannot directly read playtest records. The collector checks submissions and limits their size and frequency. These safeguards reduce risk, but no website or storage system can guarantee complete security.

How long information is kept

Analytics and submitted feedback expire 90 days after receipt. A daily cleanup deletes expired application records at its next scheduled run, within 24 hours of expiry. Short-lived abuse-prevention counters, which can include a session ID, expire after one hour or 48 hours and use the same daily cleanup.

This means the scheduled retention period for an application record can be up to 91 days. Deletion from these tables does not remove a copy already exported or retained elsewhere.

This schedule does not cover browser saves, privacy-contact requests, provider operational logs, backups or assistant-processing copies. Provider retention depends on the service, account settings and applicable terms. Those copies may outlast deletion from the application database.

Planned anonymous aggregate statistics

We plan to create genuinely anonymous aggregate statistics and retain those statistics indefinitely to improve the game and assess its commercial viability. That process is not implemented in the current prototype. Individual session records and written comments are not treated as anonymous aggregates.

Privacy questions and requests

Use our privacy contact form (opens in a new tab) for questions or requests for access, correction or deletion. It asks for your reply email, request type and message, which we use to handle your request and reply. Google hosts the form and stores responses. The form has been configured for owner-only response access and does not accept attachments. We do not use contact emails to sign you up for chapter updates. Privacy-contact requests and related replies are to be deleted 90 days after the request is resolved. This deletion procedure is not yet implemented.

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, appeal a decision or complain to a privacy regulator. Without account identities, we may need details such as the approximate play time or submission time to locate a record. We may not be able to reliably identify every record. Leave unrelated personal information out of your message. Do not send identity documents unless a secure, necessary verification method has been agreed.

Planned optional game updates and release reward

Signup is not available in this preview. The displayed form is disabled and does not collect email addresses or reserve rewards.

We plan to provide a separate optional signup for Failed Recognition development and release emails and a stabilizer pack when the full game is released. Pack contents and redemption details have not been finalized. Signing up would not be required to play, allow analytics or give feedback. Contact-form requests are not subscriptions.

The planned mailing list would be separate from gameplay analytics and feedback, without attaching email or subscriber IDs to those records. The provider, consent records, retention and unsubscribe process will be disclosed when the feature is available.

We will update this policy when the prototype’s information practices change and show a new effective date. Where required, we will provide notice or obtain consent before using information for a new purpose.

To leave this policy, return to Failed Recognition.
